What is a GPAI model?

Article 3(63) of the AI Act defines a general-purpose AI model (GPAI model) as an AI model — including models trained with large amounts of data using self-supervised learning — that displays a significant degree of generality and is capable of competently performing a wide range of distinct tasks, regardless of the way the model is placed on the market. A GPAI model can be integrated into various downstream systems or applications.
